Pufferbelly Trail contract gets approved

   Fort Wayne walkers and joggers on the near-northwest side are one step closer to trekking the Pufferbelly Trail that will connect with the 23-mile Greenway. The Fort Wayne Board of Public Works on Wednesday approved a $2,200 contract with Engineering Resources Inc. for preliminary engineering work on Phase 2 of the trail.

Wells County among healthiest

   With a lush Rivergreenway, a newly opened YMCA and a bevy of health-oriented programs, Wells County might provide residents the best opportunity for a healthy lifestyle in northeast Indiana.

Which is unusual, considering that a University of Wisconsin study that ranked each county in the nation by community health found that urban and suburban areas tend to be healthier than rural ones. That makes Wells and much of northeast Indiana the exception to the rule.
